3 jobs that pay over $ 100,000 that do not require a bachelor’s degree

Enrollment in colleges in the United States is now 6.5% down from 2019 – the biggest drop in two years we’ve seen in the past 50 years, according to a new report from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. Due to rising costs as well as the economic and health consequences of the coronavirus pandemic, more and more students are leaving bachelor’s courses.

If you decide not to go to college and are looking for career paths that don’t require a bachelor’s degree, there are several unique, high-paying jobs that you can consider. Labor statistics director Michael Wolf told CNBC Make It that although jobs that require a bachelor’s degree are growing faster than those that don’t, the pandemic has broken that trend.

“A lot of workers have quit or changed jobs because of the pandemic, which is creating a lot of vacancies so employers can’t be so picky about who to hire,” he says. “We’re seeing more and more companies hiring people without the level of education they’re usually looking for just because they’re so desperate for work.”

The highest-paid jobs that don’t require a bachelor’s degree are usually very specialized, technical jobs with extensive professional training, such as air traffic controllers. Wolf calls these jobs “exceptions to the general trend” because most of the non-graduate jobs are in the lower-paying service and retail sectors.

The higher-paying positions typically require a high school diploma, associate degree, or post-secondary non-degree. A post-secondary non-degree program is a degree that is typically completed in less than two years that gives you the specific skills or knowledge needed for a job, says Wolf.

It’s also important to note that there are fewer vacancies for these higher paying jobs.

“That is simply because the professions are very specialized,” says Wolf. “For example, we don’t need hundreds of thousands of nuclear power plant operators because there aren’t many nuclear power plants left.”

Other jobs are directly affected by the pandemic. Average makeup artist salaries rose between 2019 and 2020. With film and theater productions resuming after the temporary shutdown, security measures kept fewer people on set, so executives who tend to earn better have secured many of the jobs in 2020.
