Aecon Group to Lead Construction of Ontario Nuclear-Reactor Project

Aecon Group Inc. said that its partnership has secured an agreement to deliver Ontario’s first grid-scale small modular nuclear reactor.

The Canadian construction company said Friday that its partnership with GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy and SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. executed a six-year alliance agreement with Ontario Power Generation for the project.

The company will deliver the small modular reactor through the Darlington New Nuclear Project in Clarington.

Aecon will provide all construction services, including project management construction planning and execution.

The partnership is preparing the site and construction is expected to be finished by the fourth quarter of 2028.

On the project, GE Hitachi will be responsible for design, procuring components, engineering and support while SNC-Lavalin will be the main architect and engineer.
