Public Power, a flip with two voices that is still alive through June 30th
What caused our senators, who were elected by us to represent our interests, to prevent us from deciding which PUBLIC PUBLIC should own a public utility? Pine Tree Power, “Our Power,” did not die when two senators exchanged their votes. Although LD 1708, the “Act creating the Pine Tree Power Company, a not-for-profit utility company, to provide lower prices, reliability, and local control for.” Maine Energy “failed, some people thought the bill had been killed.
Not true!
The bill has a referendum scheduled for this November so that we, the people, can decide. But the Maine Senate failed to pass the bill with one vote last week, 18 against 17 in favor. (Just before the vote, two senators changed their minds from “yes” to “no”.)
LD 1708 promotes choice for:
Use of renewable energies
Broadband acceleration
Decarbonising our atmosphere
Create an incentive to save
Stop the enrichment of foreign shareholders
On Wednesday, June 30th, the final vote will take place on the submission of bills to the governor for decision. It would require the upturned Senators Claxton and Woodsome to reconsider.
