Akkuyu Nuclear Becomes Main Partner of EIF-2022

It hosted the 15th International Energy Congress and Exhibition EIF-2022. The event, of which Akkuyu Nuclear A.Ş is the main partner, brought together the leaders of the energy sector from Turkey and sector representatives from 52 countries.

The opening ceremony of EIF-2022 was attended by Congress Executive Committee Chairman and Energy Law Specialist Atty. Çiğdem Dilek and General Manager of Electricity Generation Joint Stock Company (EÜAŞ) Dr. İzzet Alagöz started with the speeches of Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TÜRKONFED) Chairman Süleyman Sönmez, Bosnia and Herzegovina Energy Sector Deputy Minister Admir Softiç, Rosatom Regional Vice President and “Rosatom – Middle East and North Africa” Regional Center Director Alexander Voronkov. .

In his speech, Alexander Voronkov thanked the organizers of the congress and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey for providing a professional dialogue platform between the leading representatives of the energy sector. Voronkov said: “The Congress is organized with the slogan of supporting the Sustainable Development Goals. In a turbulent world economy and global consumption growth, the demand for energy resources that can stabilize energy systems, minimize market fluctuations and meet carbon reduction commitments is more important than ever. Nuclear power is responding to this demand by acting as a reliable pillar, a catalyst for sustainable economic and industrial development.”

Rosatom and Akkuyu Nuclear Inc. representatives also participated in the work program of the congress. A separate panel session of the congress was devoted to supply chain management for nuclear power plant projects. Turkish Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) Vice President Oğuz Can moderated the panel presentations, Nuclear Technical Support Joint Stock Company (NUTED) General Manager Yusuf Ceylan, NDK Equipment Manufacturing Inspection Group Head Yasin Çetin, TC Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources Nuclear Infrastructure Development Department Specialist Hakan Hatipoğlu and Akkuyu Nuclear A.Ş. It was made by Denis Sezemin, Production and Construction Organization Director. The session started with a virtual tour of Novovoronej NGS-2, the reference power plant for Akkuyu NPP. Congress attendees saw online the main parts of the nuclear power plant powered by generation III+ reactors.

Denis Sezemin, referring to the current state of the implementation of the Akkuyu NPP project, said the following regarding the supply of equipment for the first nuclear power plant in Turkey: “Turkish companies are very actively involved in the Akkuyu NPP project. They are involved in different areas in the supply of materials, equipment and services. Most of the building materials at the construction site are Turkish made. Domestic manufacturers supply concrete mixes, rebar, metal structures, waterproofing materials, pipes and cable products for the needs of the project. Turkish manufacturers can supply ventilation, heat exchange and electrical equipment, pumps, pressure vessels and much more for the main NPP facilities, nuclear and turbine islands, provided they have the necessary certificates.”

Dmitry Turchin, Commercial Director of RENERA, part of TVEL Fuel Company, Rosatom’s industry integrator for energy storage systems, took part in the panel session “Energy Storage from the Grid to the End User” with a presentation on “Energy Storage System Production and Technology Transfer”. Alexey Golubev, CEO of Digital Platforms and Smart City Solutions, a part of Rusatom Infrastructure Solutions, spoke in a session about the Smart City concept.

Akkuyu Nuclear A.Ş.’s stand operated in the EIF-2022 fairground. Visitors to the stand showed great interest in the augmented reality mobile application called “NGS with VVER-1200 technology”. With the application, the interactive 3D model of Akkuyu NPP could be seen, the main facilities and equipment elements of the nuclear power plant were visualized and information about the working principles of the NPP could be obtained.

The booth also included a conference area where Akkuyu Nuclear experts made a presentation about the Akkuyu NPP project and the importance of nuclear energy for Turkey’s technological development to students from high schools in Istanbul who were specially invited to the fair. A video tour of the Akkuyu NPP construction site was broadcast on the giant screen, and Turkish nuclear engineers trained in Russia served as tour guides. After the video tour, the booth attendants asked questions to the guests and distributed gifts to those who answered correctly.

Akkuyu Nuclear A.Ş procurement specialists also held more than 2 working meetings with potential suppliers of the Akkuyu NPP project on procedures and requirements for suppliers in the procurement b50b part of the fair.
