Drones, bombs, spies – in Israel’s crafty plan to stop Iran’s atomic bombs

Israel has carried out three major operations against Iranian nuclear facilities in the past 18 months. Up to a thousand Mossad employees were involved in these attacks and were carried out with ruthless precision using high-tech weapons such as drones and a quadrocopter, as well as spies in Tehran’s sanctuary nuclear program.

While President Biden’s nuclear negotiators try to wrest the disaster from defeat in Vienna, Israel takes things more seriously.

Last week, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett turned to a new policy towards Tehran: retaliation against aggression by Tehran-backed militias with covert attacks on Iranian soil.

This builds on the extensive skills that the Mossad has built in the Islamic Republic in recent years. In February – seven months before the New York Times “published” the same story – I revealed in the Jewish Chronicle of London how Israeli spies killed the nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh with a remote-controlled machine gun. I can now reveal the secrets behind Israel’s recent triple attack on Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

The Israeli Mossad not only murdered the Iranian top nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh (Auto) in an ambush last year, but also infiltrated the Iranian nuclear facility Natanz in two separate attacks and switched off a centrifuge factory with a quadrocopter.

The tripartite sabotage effort began on July 2, 2020 with a mysterious explosion at the Iran Center for Advanced Centrifuges (ICAC) facility in Natanz, one of the ultra-safe nuclear facilities scattered across Iran.

At first the Iranians were confused. The building had apparently blown itself up. But how? The answer shocked them, they say. When the apparatchiks of the Ayatollah renovated the facility in 2019, Israeli agents pretended to be building merchants and sold them building materials. These building materials were packed with explosives. A year later they were blown up by Tel Aviv.

Although this caused considerable damage, the Natanz plant was far from out of the picture. The holy of holies of the underground hall A1000 lay beneath a protective layer of 12 m of concrete and iron. Inside were up to 5,000 centrifuges that hummed day and night, bringing the Iranian regime closer to a nuclear weapon minute by minute.

The second phase of the plan has been put into effect. Mossad spies reached out to up to 10 Iranian scientists who had access to this hall and managed to get them to switch sides – although they led the scientists to believe they were working for international dissidents, not Israel.

Incredibly, the scientists agreed to blow up the high-security facility.

“Their motivations were all different,” a well-placed Israeli source tells me. “The Mossad found what they deeply wanted in their lives and offered it to them. There was an inner circle of scientists who knew more about the operation and an outer circle who helped but had less information. “

The mystery of getting the explosives into the fortified complex remained.

This has been accomplished in two ways. First, a drone flew into its airspace and delivered the bombs to an agreed location for the scientists to pick up. Then came the smuggling.

“Suppose you wanted to bring explosives to Natanz,” a source told me shyly. “How could you do it? For example, you could think about how the people who work there should eat. You need food.

“So you could put the explosives on the truck that brings the food to the canteen and the scientists could pick it up as soon as it is in. Yes, you could do that. “

The plan worked. The scientists collected the bombs and installed them. In April, after Iran announced that it would use advanced IR-5 and IR-6 centrifuges in the underground hall – in outrageous disregard of its nuclear commitments – the explosives were set off.

The explosion destroyed the secure power supply system and caused a power outage. Ninety percent of the centrifuges were destroyed and the facility was shut down for up to nine months. The scientists immediately disappeared. Everyone is alive and well today.

The Mossad’s attention then turned to the manufacture of the centrifuges themselves to disrupt the regime’s attempt to restore the facility at Natanz. The crosshair moved to Karaj, 48 kilometers northwest of Tehran, where the Iran Centrifuge Technology Company (TESA) is located.

In the past few months, a team of Israeli spies and their Iranian agents had jointly smuggled an armed quadrocopter – which weighs as much as a motorcycle, according to a source – into the country piece by piece. Now it was time to use it.

On June 23, the team assembled the kit and took it to a location 10 miles from the TESA factory. The agents started it, steered it to the factory and released the payload, causing a big explosion. Then the drone returned to the launch site, where it was brought into use again.

It is significant that these operations took place during the ongoing negotiations in Vienna. The Mossad’s operations were carried out without international cooperation. To use Israeli intelligence slang, the attacks were “blue-white” rather than “blue-white-red,” which indicates American involvement. This is also important.

In the past few weeks, Axios reported, Israel had exchanged intelligence showing that Iran had laid the technical foundations for enriching uranium to 90 percent purity, the level required for a bomb.

While Biden’s team, saturated with naivety and a back to the future focus on the Obama years, chases in vain in Vienna, the cynical Iranians are preparing for war – and the Mossad, whose instincts are sharpened by the desire for their families protect from annihilation, tries to stop them.

The contrast between the cloud cuckoo Washington and the Jerusalem after the Holocaust is stark. And in seven months you might even be reading this in the New York Times.
