Flamgard Calidair has chosen Hinkley Point C. Highly integrated HVAC contracts secured

HELSINKI, November 22, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The United Kingdom is undergoing a generational shift towards sustainable energy and nuclear power is an important part of this new strategy because of its low carbon energy production. Hinkley Point C is the first nuclear power plant built in the UK in over 20 years and the flagship for the new era of nuclear power.

Not only will Hinkley Point C produce more energy than any other nuclear power station in the UK, but its construction is also the blueprint for a new age in energy production. With a wealth of experience on both new build and decommissioning projects in the nuclear sector, Flamgard Calidair, a Halton company, has won a number of orders for Hinkley Point C including balance, butterfly and check valves.

About Hinkley Point C

Hinkley Point C will generate approximately 3,260 MW of low carbon energy per year over its 60 year lifespan – enough to power 6 million households in the UK. In addition, the facility will offset around 9 million tons of carbon dioxide annually and make a significant contribution to the government’s net-zero targets.

Hinkley Point C has already created thousands of jobs through design and construction contracts and will support a significant number of permanent positions once the plant is operational.

The development of Hinkley Point C poses unique challenges, including meeting a number of new nuclear regulations for the first time. Compliance with the latest nuclear energy standards will not only ensure that Hinkley Point C will function safely and effectively throughout its lifecycle, but will also establish best practices in the industry and develop efficient nuclear supply chains for Great Britain.

Over the past three years, Flamgard has conducted and participated in several research and development projects for nuclear initiatives and ultimately tailor-made solutions specifically for Hinkley point C.. Flamgard products are designed to meet a number of key performance criteria, depending on the application of each damper, and support safety throughout Somerset-based complex.

The story goes on

Shuresh Maran, Business Development Director at Flamgard Calidair, commented: “Hinkley Point C is a hugely important project not just for Flamgard Calidair, but for the entire nuclear industry Great Britain. Ambitious targets for net zero emissions and green power generation are driving demand for nuclear power, and it is vital that we as a country develop the supply chains and the expertise to deliver it. “

Flamgard Calidair has successfully secured a master agreement from Axima Nucleaire for the supply of various categories of dampers specially designed, developed and tested to meet the strict UK nuclear regulations and project specifications. With deliveries by 2024 a solid working basis for the South wales based company.

The advances at Hinkley Point C bode well for the Sizewell C Consortium, of which Flamgard is a member, which is responsible for advancing plans to build a new nuclear power plant in Suffolk known as Sizewell C. With Hinkley Point C construction well advanced and Sizewell C looking promising, Britain is making great strides in nuclear power generation and related low carbon energy.
