INL announces activities for Nuclear Science Week

The following is a press release from the Idaho National Laboratory.

In honor of Nuclear Science Week, October 18-22, the Idaho National Laboratory plans several activities to celebrate the nuclear science industry, pay tribute to those who work in the field every day, and attract the next generation of scientists and engineers to inspire.

“The Idaho National Laboratory’s contribution to nuclear energy research is unparalleled,” said Jesse Gehin, associate director of INL Nuclear Science & Technology. “This annual event is a great opportunity for us to share our story and talk about the importance of advancing nuclear technology.”

During the week, educators, students, and community members are invited to learn more about how nuclear science plays a vital role in the lives of Americans – and the world. Activities during the week are designed to raise awareness of nuclear science and innovation here in Idaho.

Inspire future generations

For elementary, middle, and senior high school students in eastern Idaho, the INL’s K-12 STEM program offers make-and-take kits for Nuclear Science Week. Coupled with informational videos and online games, the kits help students learn more about STEM-centered topics such as nuclear fission and radiation. Students will also go on a virtual excursion and have access to the largest virtual science and engineering fair in the world.
