Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) signed a heavy water sales agreement with the China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation (CNEIC) and the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant in China on October 25th via a video conferencing system.

CNEIC is a company responsible for importing and exporting nuclear fuel cycle products in China.

The Chinsan Nuclear Power Plant, which began commercial operations in 2002, is a heavy water reactor type nuclear power plant identical to the Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant in Korea.

KHNP will deliver 80 tons of heavy water stored at Wolseong Nuclear Power Plant to Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant by October next year.

This contract was recognized for its excellence in nuclear power plant operations, including KHNP’s ability to quality control heavy water.

“Selling heavy water is a new business model created by KHNP’s ability to operate nuclear power plants and different from the existing equipment and supplies business,” said KHNP President Jeong Jae-hoon. “KHNP will continue to penetrate overseas markets by expanding its businesses to export nuclear power plants and equipment, and to operate and build nuclear power plants, and provide advice and technical support.”
