Navajo Broadcast 2 – Navajo (Diné) language NRC security screening

This is the second of three NRC broadcasts in Navajo (Diné) language about a proposal to dig up mine waste from the site of the former Northeast Church Rock Mine and place that waste in a repository on an existing uranium mill backwater for permanent disposal at the nearby one United Nuclear Mill Site. This broadcast describes the technical review of the NRC staff to determine whether the United Nuclear Corporation proposal can be safely implemented. This safety review differs from our environmental review in that it focuses on the specifics of the proposal to determine whether it would meet NRC requirements to protect public health, safety and the environment. The results of the NRC’s safety review are described in a report called a safety assessment report.
