Hanoi (VNA) – The 14th Vietnam Conference on Nuclear Science and Technology (VINANST-14) opened by video conference on December 9th, attended by numerous Vietnamese and foreign experts, scientists, researchers and management officials from various fields of nuclear science and technology.

Tran Chi Thanh, director of the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM), said at the event that VINANST-14 is an important scientific event for the Vietnamese Nuclear energy Scientific community and efforts to promote scientific research and the development of the application of atomic energy, in the context of Vietnam’s efforts to promote atomic energy for peaceful purposes.

The event, which runs until December 10th, comprises 14 sessions on different topics, including applications of data-driven methods and AI in Nuclear reactor Engineering and Reactor Neutron Beam Applications and some results from the Da Lat Research Reactor.

In the healthcare field, Assoc. Prof. Le Ngoc Ha from 108 Military Central Hospital gave a report on the topic “Radionuclides and Radiopharmaceuticals in Nuclear Medicine in Vietnam: Current Status and Perspective”.

Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Nhi Dien, Head of the Dalat Nuclear Research Reactor (NRI), also informed the participants about the status of the project on the research center for Nuclear science and technology and proposing main research and application directions for the new research reactor. The center with a 10 MWt reactor is a joint project between Vietnam and Russia.

VINANST was first organized by VINATOM in 1996 and is a biennial event, the largest of its kind in atomic research, development and application in Vietnam./.
