Photo Release — Huntington Ingalls Industries Launches Virginia-Class Submarine Montana (SSN 794) NYSE:HII
NEWPORT NEWS, Va., March 3, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – Huntington Ingalls Industries (NYSE: HII) announced today that the Virginia-class submarine Montana (SSN 794) is in the company’s Newport News Shipbuilding Division in the James River was introduced.
The 7,800-ton submarine, which had been in a floating dry dock since its transfer from a construction facility in October, was submerged and tugged to the shipyard’s submarine pier, where it was finally equipped, tested and the crew certified become.
“For our shipbuilders, starting from Montana means five years of hard work, dedication, and dedicated service,” said Jason Ward, vice president, Virginia-class submarine construction for Newport News. “We look forward to running our water-based testing program, working towards sea trials, and shipping the sub to the Navy later this year.”
Thanks to the team agreement with General Dynamics Electric Boat, around 10,000 shipbuilders and suppliers from all 50 states have participated in Montana’s construction since work began in 2015. Montana is around 92% complete and is expected to be delivered to the US Navy in late 2021.
