Report: Iranian nuclear scientist killed with remote controlled robotic gun

September 18 (UPI) – According to a report published in the New York Times on Saturday, the leading Iranian nuclear scientist was murdered by Israeli intelligence using a high-tech remote-controlled machine gun.

Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was shot dead on November 27, 2020 while driving his Nissan Teana between a vacation home on the Caspian Sea and a country house and the town of Absard, where he was going to spend the weekend with his wife, the report said.

Iranian agents working for Israel had a blue Nissan Zamyad pickup truck parked on the side of the road with a 7.62mm sniper machine gun hidden between building materials.

An assassin from the Israeli secret service Mossad fired the weapon at Fakhrizadeh. The assassin was more than 1,000 miles away and used an advanced robot to operate the gun, which was smuggled into the country in small pieces.

However, explosives placed on the gun and robot left them intact, allowing the Iranians to piece what happened together.

Israel has long been concerned about Iran’s development of nuclear weapons. Iranian leaders blamed Israel for the attack, saying it was carried out using high-tech means.

“Unfortunately the operation was very complicated and was done with electronic devices and no [perpetrators] were at the scene, “said Ali Shamkhani, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, at a funeral for Fakhrizdeh.

The Jerusalem Post on Saturday confirmed the Times’s coverage, saying it had cleared up confusion surrounding Fakhrizadeh’s death.

The Post also reported that there were questions about how successful the operation was in delaying Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Israel had targeted Fakhrizadeh since 2007 and was concerned that it would accelerate Iran’s nuclear program, according to the Times report. In 2012, Israel put its assassination plan on hold when the US opened negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program.

After President Donald Trump terminated the deal with Iran, Israel, along with senior US officials, resumed its murder plans in 2019 and 2020, the Times reports.

Iran’s English-language Press TV reported that it would target the US in legal proceedings for its support for the Israeli-led killing of nuclear scientists. Iranian officials are calling on the US to continue talks on its nuclear program.
