Seddon wins £175m fit-out work at Sellafield

Bolton-based contractor Seddon Construction has been appointed to undertake £175m of work at the Sellafield nuclear site in Cumbria.

The contractor has been appointed via a fourth framework agreement to the job, which will run for 17 years until 2039 and includes building walls and ceilings. Screeding, flooring, painting and joinery will also be part of the decommissioning work at the site in Cumbria.

Seddon Construction divisional director John Shannon said that the fit-out appointment would aid in the delivery of work on site, as well as boosting the local economy.

The firm has revealed that it also plans to open an office in West Cumbria.

The framework was procured by Programs and Project Partners, a partnership led by Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR), Jacobs, and Doosan Babcock Ltd. It was formed in 2019.

The procurement model used is called multi project procurement (MPP), which supports long-term partnerships along the supply chain. All delivery partners will work closely in the work towards providing infrastructure for decommissioning over the next 17 years.

Project and Program Partners head of supply chain Peter Hogg said that this model helped bring in new partners like Seddon.

“We are very pleased to announce our fourth long-term work partnership. This company has never worked ‘inside the fence’ at Sellafield before and that is why the Project and Program Partners model is different.”

In March, Balfour Beatty Kilpatrick and Doosan Babcock were chosen to deliver mechanical piped services to Sellafield.
