The contractor Kilnbridge was sold to 800 employees

Dermot McDermott, who founded Kilnbridge based in East London 30 years ago, has transferred all of his stake to the Trust and represented 800 Kilnbridge employees.

It is now one of the largest employee-owned construction companies in the country.

McDermot will remain CEO of the company and will continue to drive the company with the support of the existing leadership team.

Last year the company increased sales 15% to £ 91 million and tripled pre-profit to nearly £ 5.7 million after shifting focus to larger, more complex infrastructure projects.

He said, “As an employee-owned company, Kilnbridge will continue to thrive and deliver responsibility, integrity, collaboration and excellence to our customers in line with our deeply ingrained values.”

This included work for Crossrail and the complex concrete head structures for the cooling system at the Hinkley Point nuclear power plant. Cash flow improved from around £ 5m to over £ 18m in June 2020.

Kilnbridge was founded as a small construction and civil engineering company in 1992 and has since grown into a specialist engineering and construction company handling complex engineering projects nationwide.

Kilnbridge is now active in the infrastructure, rail, energy, defense, aerospace, commercial and residential sectors.

In addition to its headquarters in London, the company now also has offices in Birmingham and Belfast and a production facility in Northampton.
